"Advocate and Angels" is a 4 week (Tues/Thurs) caregiver webinar series with Carol Campbell, Caregiver Coach and Board Certified Patient Advocate.

Tuesday: Students will learn general advocacy techniques along with specific advocacy subjects such as HIPAA, Protected Health Information, Confidentiality and Patient Bill of Rights and the use of patient portals to advocate more effectively. Students will also learn how family caregivers/clients interpret spiritual guidance, religion and more as it pertains to guardianship of sick, disabled or elderly loved ones.
Thursday: Questions and Coaching
The class will delve into case studies to demonstrate advocacy specific to their guardianship/custody clients and their overall spirituality. Students will role play, ask questions and receive coaching.
Tuesday: Students will be introduced to the intricacies of Medicare, Medicaid, HMO, PPO, TriCare and other methods of paying for healthcare in an effort to more effectively field basic questions from their clients. This module will also introduce students to the commonalities and differences of religions with emphasis on respecting the faith of all clients. This module will also cover the concept of religious, spiritual, atheist and agnostic clients and how their beliefs may impact how they handle all issues including financial problems.
Thursday: Questions and Coaching
The class will delve into case studies to understand the use of various medical insurance and payment options. Students will also be asked to role play scenarios where their client is either religious, agnostic or spiritual with an insurance question. Students will have time to ask questions and receive coaching.
Tuesday: Students will be introduced to basic medical terminology needed to understand the needs of their guardianship clients. This class will cover common guardianship medical terminology such as CPAP, dementia, developmental disability, along with incapacitated, psychotropic medicine and tracheotomy to name a few. Students will also be taught how to recognize their client's anxiety/stress as they attempt to understand medical terminology. They will learn the benefits of relaxation techniques, breathing and meditation so they can recommend a technique to their client and/or refer them to a provider.
Thursday: The class will delve into case studies that will incorporate various medical terminology. Students will also be asked to role play scenarios where their client needs a basic explanation of some medical terminology as it applies to guardianship and/or the client is becoming overwhelmed with the added responsibility. Students will have time to ask questions and receive coaching.
Tuesday: Bonus Module
This bonus module will delve into specific topics unique to your class.
Tuesday: Do you and your classmates need to understand and identify an effective care plan for your client/patient? Perhaps you want more clarity on the most effective listening techniques when discussing a family's religious practices. Do you want to spend more time understanding and role-playing your patient's financial options to pay for medical expenses.
The class will continue addressing the specific questions unique to the group by utilizing a question, answer, coaching and role-playing format which will conclude with the course review.
